About this course
Alberta's Chemistry 20 has four units: the diversity of matter and chemical bonding; forms of matter: gases; matter as solutions, acids and bases; and quantitative relationships in chemical changes. The bonding unit carries a large naming load, so naming is pulled out into a unit of its own here, and the solutions unit is split from acids and bases — together they are about a third of the course. The six units cover every outcome.
There is no diploma exam in Grade 11. What Chemistry 20 is really for is Chemistry 30: the mole, stoichiometry and acid-base work all return next year, assumed rather than retaught.
