About this course

Social Studies 20-1 asks one big question — to what extent should we embrace nationalism? — through four related issues: nation and identity, national interest and ultranationalism, internationalism, and national identity in Canada. All four are here, plus two supporting units that supply the history the related issues assume: the French Revolution and the rise of the nation-state, and the ultranationalism of the interwar years and the Second World War.

There is no diploma exam in Grade 11. Social 20-1 is marked by your school, and it leads directly into Social 30-1, which asks the same kind of question about ideology instead of nationalism.

Related issues and outcomes come from Alberta Education's Social Studies Kindergarten to Grade 12 Program of Studies.
