About this course
English 10-1 is a skills course with no set text list, so these units are organized around what you are asked to do rather than around particular books. Four are about reading closely and two are about the writing.
Everything here is the same shape as English 20-1 and 30-1, one and two years earlier and with less asked of it. The habits — quoting precisely, explaining effect, staying in the literary present — are cheaper to build now than to repair later.
Because you choose your own texts for the essay, nothing here depends on a particular novel or play.
