Say each digraph out loud — one sound, not two. Then think of two words that start with it and write them. Saying it before writing is the part that teaches.
Two letters, one sound
Plenty of answers work. sh — ship, shop, shell. ch — chair, chip, cheese. th — thumb, think, three. wh — wheel, whale, when.
A digraph is two letters making one sound. A blend like st or bl is two letters each keeping its own. The words sound alike and mean different things, and Grade 1 meets both.
