10 and 6 → part 4: 6+4=10, 4+6=10, 10−6=4, 10−4=6. 12 and 5 → 7. 15 and 8 → 7. 20 and 13 → 7.
Writing all four is the point. A child who can do 6 + 4 but stalls on 10 − 6 is treating subtraction as a separate subject, and the family is what joins them up.
