10¢: one dime, or two nickels. 25¢: one quarter, or two dimes and a nickel. 30¢: a quarter and a nickel, or three dimes. $1: a loonie, or four quarters. 75¢: three quarters, or two quarters two dimes and a nickel.

The dime is the smallest coin and worth twice the nickel. Children notice that immediately, and it is the cleanest example of value not being size.
