Put each letter in front of the ending and read what you get. Write the real words on the lines. Not every one will be a word — deciding which are is part of the job.
Word families
-at: cat, hat, mat, sat. -ig: big, dig, pig, wig. -op: hop, mop, pop, top. -un: bun, fun, run, sun. All sixteen happen to be real words this time.
Word families work because the ending stays put. A child who reads cat and then has to sound out hat from scratch has not yet noticed the pattern, and that noticing is the point of the sheet.
