Read something together, and every time they get stuck, name which of these they used. Then have them write one example of their own beside it. The point is noticing the stuck moment, not avoiding it.
Slow down
When: The sentence is long or the words are new.
Read it again
When: It went in and nothing stayed.
Look back
When: A name or a fact has been forgotten.
Look at the picture
When: There is one, and it is usually there for a reason.
Say it out loud
When: Sometimes the ear catches what the eye did not.
Ask someone
When: After trying the others.
