Adding -ed

walk → walked

jump

want

Double the consonant

hop → hopping

run
sit
stop

Drop the silent e

hope → hoping

bake
smile
ride

Adding -s and -es

cat → cats, box → boxes

dog
bus
wish

Spelling patterns

jumped, played, wanted. running, sitting, stopping. baking, smiling, riding. dogs, buses, wishes. The third row is the one that catches people: the e goes before -ing, but stays before a consonant.
