Two things make this more than flashcards. A wrong answer shows the fact as rows of dots rather than just marking it — 7 rows of 8 is a picture and 56 is not. And the facts you were slow or wrong on come round again, so the practice concentrates where it helps instead of spreading evenly over things you already know.
