4.26 × 3 = 12.78, 12.5 × 6 = 75, 0.75 × 8 = 6, 3.08 × 5 = 15.4; 9.6 ÷ 4 = 2.4, 7.25 ÷ 5 = 1.45, 8.64 ÷ 12 = 0.72. Each friend pays $19.20; 12 pencils cost $10.20. Estimate check: 4.26 × 3 is about 4 × 3 = 12, so 12.78 is sensible and 127.8 is not.
Grade 6 multiplies and divides numbers of up to three digits by whole numbers of one or two digits. A misplaced decimal point is the usual mistake, and an estimate is the usual cure. Both math tests in June are calculator-free.
