The Grade 6 writing test asks for one non-fiction piece and one fiction piece in two hours. Practise the planning: ten minutes for each plan, then write one of them in full on lined paper.

Non-fiction: Your school can start one new club next year. Write to the principal to persuade them to choose the club you want.

On the real test the first ten minutes may be spent discussing both prompts with classmates, and planning pages are provided. A plan with a clear ending is the best protection against running out of time mid-story. The prompts here are made up, in the style of the test.
